Your first point of contact with these organisations will be through your own doctor and pharmacist who often work with a range of allied health and community workers and can tell you which ones will be appropriate for you. Speak with your local Community Health Service, hospital and your Local Council, all of which will be able to give you a list of the services in your area including transport, gardening, home help, medical equipment and meal services. Many local Government council websites will carry that information. Physiotherapists, occupational therapists and dieticians close to where you live will be attached to hospitals and Community Health Services. Here is a list of organisations which can also help: Community Health Centres are located in most areas around Australia and offer free and heavily discounted health services including counselling, medical and nursing services and allied health including dental, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, podiatry, maternal care, speech therapy and post acute care assistance. Local Community Services Association the main organisation for Neighbourhood and Community Centres in NSW. The Australian Meals On Wheels Association is a volunteer organisation which provides hot and nutritious meals daily for the frail, aged, younger people with disabilities and their carers either free or for a small fee. National Public Toilet Map gives the location of more than 14,000 public and private public toilet facilities throughout Australia and provides useful information including location, opening hours, availability of baby change rooms, accessibility for people with disabilities and other nearby toilets. Independent Living Centre Australia provides access to information, services and advice on medical equipment and consumables through the Independent Living Centre Network and financial support.
Home & Community Care (HACC) is a national organisation with state offices helping frail older people and those with a disability living independently in their own home. It provides services such as cooked meals, gardening, minor repairs, cleaning and referral to other relevant services in your area. The Australian Red Cross has a range of volunteer services including regular visits for social contact, help with transport and regular trips out. Action on Disability within Ethnic Communities (ADEC) Assists people from non English speaking backgrounds who have a disability and their carers with a wide range of services from advocacy, information to referral services. ConnectGroups - Support Groups Association WA A not-for-profit community-based organisation providing support and contact with self help support groups. Mission Australia A national charitable organisation proving a wide range of services in social support, aged care, counselling, drug and alcohol rehabilitation and services for children, youth and families.
