Support
Dealing with a medical condition, an illness or injury can be stressful and can severely change and disrupt our lives. Having good support during these times will relieve pressure and provide strength to cope with the changes that come with medical treatment.
Research tells us that having a good support network is the key to quicker recovery so accept as much help as is offered.
Support can come in many ways and is not just someone being physically with you at doctor’s appointments or treatment sessions but it could include financial support, help with raising funds for a procedure, someone to telephone once a week to lift your spirits or help with child care, housework, preparing meals or transport.
Everyone will need someone to lean on and lighten the load at some time during a major change in health, even your carers. Listen to many people, ask lots of questions and seek out as many places as you can to gain information from before making choices.
There are so many ways to access help and many places to get it from; it’s just a matter of knowing where to look. In the following pages there are some places for you to start.
